Be prepared for a surprise if you haven’t danced the rural farming community style dance of Southern Egypt with Aliya before!This dance style is still very much in evidence today at weddings and other celebrations in the Egyptian countryside and is very different from the cabaret ‘Bellydance’ that we are more familiar with.
The movements and feel of the dance are wild and earthy, expansive and powerful with an emphasis on using the whole body as well as leg work and some isolated hip technique. The style leaves you feeling open, released and confident. During the workshop we will be focusing on the ‘feel’ of the dance, hip and leg technique, free expansive arms, projection, posture and enjoying our dance! All levels of dancers are welcome.

Diane and Ellie are two dancers based in Dorset who are passionate about Egyptian dance. They have both studied for some years with notable teachers in the UK, Europe and Egypt. Their love of the dance has inspired an alliance to further their creative ideas, the most recent being 'The Characters of the Moulid!'. They aim to raise the profile of Egyptian dance in Dorset, foster good relations with dancers of other styles of Arabic dance and bring guest Raqs Sharqi teachers to Dorset.
