Manchester - home to the BBC's Drama and Comedy departments, home to Granada Television and the most exciting new independent production companies. Sunshine - already internationally noted for its contribution to dance training - is proud to introduce to you our SUNSHINE ACTORS GUILD. Together with 3 x BAFTA and RTS nominated Director, Chris Corcoran, we have developed a course designed to produce rounded performers who are equipped to excel in all areas of the industry, which is increasingly focused on Manchester and the North West.
Chris Corcoran began his career in Manchester on the club circuit as a solo performer, and quickly progressed into repertory and major touring theatre. For 27 years he worked almost without a break in pieces as diverse as Miller's Death of a Salesman to Lloyd Webber's Evita. He then moved into TV as a programme director, working on Hollyoaks, Brookside, Grange Hill and The Royal Today. He's seen 'The Business' from both sides of the audition table, and is passionate about passing on his vast knowledge and helping the new thrusting talent of his hometown and beyond.
Run for and by working professionals with great industry contacts, and advice and support from Actor's Union, Equity, this course will help actors trying to break into the industry and those already established looking to enhance their skills.
Chris says, "" Having been part of Show Business for over 35 years from cabaret, through leading roles in Musical Theatre, to directing for theatre and television, I feel I have a great deal of experience and technique to pass on to the next acting generation. As Sunshine Acting Course Director it is giving me the opportunity to do just that. Through the success of young George Samson in ""Britain's Got Talent"" Sunshine has proved it can produce the best dance talent around. I believe we can do the same for our students of drama and musical theatre"".
Classes will run as workshops, focusing on key areas such as sight-reading script, acting for stage and television, improvisation, movement and musical theatre plus many other fundamental skills that enrich an actor's performance. These will be intensive, demanding sessions, run over ten-week courses through out the year. The Course will consist of daytime classes, evening classes and Saturdays in order to be accessible to as many acting students as possible.
The course is designed for three skill levels:
* Introductory Foundation Course (18+ years)
* Advanced - professional actors and post graduates
* Saturday Morning Acting School (8 - 18 years)
Whatever level, background and direction students will cover:
* Acting for TV - technical and script disciplines, script to screen
* Acting for Stage - drama and musical theatre
* Audition Technique - stage and television audition technique
* Movement
* Musical Theatre - drama in musical theatre, dance and voice science
* An End Project
Students will be taught the basics for studio, stage and technical awareness as well as exploring topics within scripts, improvisation, sight-reading, voice, characterisation, rehearsal and audition process. Students will study actual TV scripts and learn the art of taking a character from the page to the screen.
