Dark Britannia featuring Aepril Schaile. Sept 29th – 30th 2012
A weekend of Dark and Tribal fusion Bellydance in London, UK.
Dark Britannia aims to be a fantastically creative and inspiring weekend of workshops covering 11 hours of intense workout, tribal technique and performance creativity.
A weekend intensive to tackle the creative and artistic side of our dance practise as well as addressing strong dance technique. Aepril Schaile from the USA and Darkstar have collaborated together to create a weekend which will work both body and mind. We hope you can join us on a truly unique weekend and leave not only as the dancer but as the artist and performer. Each session over the two days has been designed to complement and work together to give you the most immersive dance experience possible.
Saturday September 29th
10.00 – 11.30 Darkstar
The Bone Rattler
Lets wake up the body with morning conditioning followed by a full on drill session to cover the technique we need for the weekends activities. Graduating shimmies, power pops and electric waves flow into a mini combo.
Let the bone rattler commence.
11.30 – 1.30 Aepril Schaile
Eerie Serpents and Ethereal Grace
Technique for creating inhuman, ghostly appearance for bellydance.
We will work to create liquid arms and body, the appearance of “floating” across the floor, otherworldly locks and isolations. We will explore how to use space and time – unusual level changes, theatrical blocking and staging, eerie travelling steps. In addition to form, the importance of dramatic technique is emphasized – facial communication, striking pauses and dynamics, energy and power direction and intention. All will be integrated at the end in a haunting choreography.
1.30 – 2.30 Lunch Break
2.30 – 4.30 Aepril Schaile
Shamanic Dance Theatre
Explore the tribal and theatrical roots of Shamanism through dance. Theatre has its roots in the Shaman’s ritual. The Shaman—a magical being engaged with her tribe in the liminal role of the sacred trickster, shape shifter, prophetess, magician, healer. In this workshop, we will work with metaphysical power and shamanic journeying to add spiritual, emotional and creative depth to our bellydance. Through dance and ritual-theatre we will call upon the spirits of nature and divinity, journeying into the psychic Underworld to retrieve lost parts of the Soul and Self. Come away with a greater sense of power and authenticity in your theatrical Bellydance.
