Organised by UMBELA ARTS Cost: £6 per session or £10 for two sessions • 2012 CARNIVAL WORKSHOPS – Venue 1, 4th Floor. £6 (£10 for 2) Starting at 2.30pm in the afternoon, in Venue 2 there will be open workshops in the roots dance from Bahia, Brazil. These exciting taster sessions give you a flavour of the grace and intensity of the performing with the groups when they parade at Notting Hill Carnival this August. These are open to all levels, absolute beginner to advanced. The cost is £6 per session or £10 for two sessions. Sessions are free to watch! Two of London's Samba-Reggae carnival bands – TRIBO and ERI OKAN will introduce the movement and rhythms that combine to make Carnival an amazing experience for all. 2.30pm – 4.00pm Afro-Brazilian, Bahian and Afro-contemporary dance with Norma Santana – accompanied by live drummers TRIBO and students 4.30PM – 6.00pm African/Afro-Brazilian and Candomble FUSION – Irineu Nogueira – accompanied by live drummers ERI OKAN and students This is followed by an early evening show by both of these explosive groups, TRIBO and ERI OKAN. This is FREE live club night with live bands, DJ, bar and great vibes. 6pm till 9.30pm. Irineu Nogueira – a pioneer in Brazilian dance and a solid reference within the Brazilian/African rhythms & movements scene in Brazil. He is a wholehearted dancer, combining genuine passion with contemporary vision. His classes illustrate the creative way he approaches Brazilian folklore and West African traditions. Accompanied by Bloco-Afro ERI OKAN and the workshop drummers, the session will feature his interpretation of Candomble movements and dances from West Africa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsBjBqQ0uPA www.irineunogueira.com Norma Santana has worked as a professional dancer with several folkloric and contemporary dance companies renowned in Salvador and around Brazil. Her choreographic research and passion have led her to work in many ground breaking projects and theatre and the community.
