From Cairo to Cordoba dance workshop!
Come and join us on February 23rd and 24th for an Egyptian Baladi and Arab/Andalous dance workshop with live music performance, world renowned musicians, Sara Kahan and special guests!
Musicians include:
Sheik Taha (Accordion) - Master Accordionist, known as the 'Father of Baladi'. A great figure of Egyptian popular music who has worked with many renowned performers in the world of Arabic entertainment.
Camille Malawy (Voice) - Born to an Egyptian father and an English mother, Camille's repertoire is as extensive as it is diverse, ranging from opera, to embracing both Arabic and Jewish music.
Guy Schalom (Percussion) - Guy appears internationally with a host of recording artists and world class dancers performing varied styles of music. He also leads his own bands including the acclaimed Baladi Blues Ensemble.
Glenn Sharp (Oud, Guitar) - Glenn is a session musician, composer and producer of world music, based in the UK. He is a session guitarist who plays all styles of guitar but specialises in flamenco, spanish classical and world music.
Programme:
Saturday - Egyptian Baladi, work with drum solos and percussion, and Baladi takasim (improvisation)
Sunday - A new departure, we will explore not only Arabo-Andalus style Classical Raqs Sharqi, but also Ladino song from the Jews of Spain and the Middle East.
