Hampshire Dance is bringing the UK's biggest outdoor dance event of the year to Portsmouth on 10 July! The third national Big Dance week aims to encourage people to get into dance, and has dance events happening in London and across the south east and the rest of the UK.The event in Portsmouth will kick off in Gunwharf Quays between 11am and 12.30pm with Flash Mob Fury. Dance will pop up where you least expect it, with spontaneous outbursts in the shopping malls! Will you be brave enough to join in?
The action will then move to Guildhall Square for Big Dance in the Square from 1pm – 6pm. This will be an unforgettable spectacle, with an afternoon of live performances, mass dance workshops, T-Mobile style flash mob dancing plus dance on the Big Screen. We will be joined by Dance Champion Miguel Doforo of MD Productions (semi finalists in 'Britain's Got Talent in both 2007 and 2009).
There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and experience a wide variety of dance styles led by professionals and community groups. Watch or join in with the crowd as the mood takes you!
As part of Big Dance in the Square, specially commissioned high energy dance performances choreographed by Helen Parlor (ex Motionhouse) will take place on the Guildhall steps. Local dance artists and community members will perform Dark Skies and Together We Stand, taking inspiration from the imposing presence of the Guildhall and its history.
Big Dance South East England in Portsmouth is supported by Portsmouth City Council, Find Your Talent - PUSH, Gunwharf Quays and New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth.
