This includes a wide range of styles notably breaking, locking, and popping which were developed in the 1970s by Black and Latino Americans. What separates hip-hop dance from other forms of dance is that it is often freestyle (improvisational) in nature and hip-hop dancers frequently engage in battles—formal or informal freestyle dance competitions. Sunshine Studios Work Study Program A non-audition program for serious dancers in need of financial assistance with their intensive training. Work-Study participants are selected through an application and interview process. You must already be living in the area of the studio to apply for this program, and be a EU citizen. Once accepted into the program, Work-Study students are assigned a work schedule in various positions in the studio or on the cleaning staff in exchange for discounted classes/courses. For every hour of work in this program, the student earns a free/discounted class/course! Not only will gain training but also an insight into the industry and an opportunity to network with professionals in the industry. Locking (originally Campbellocking) is a style of funk dance, which is today also associated with hip hop. Chris Corcoran began his career in Manchester on the club circuit as a solo performer, and quickly progressed into repertory and major touring theatre. For 27 years he worked almost without a break in pieces as diverse as Miller's Death of a Salesman to Lloyd Webber's Evita. He then moved into TV as a programme director, working on Hollyoaks, Brookside, Grange Hill and The Royal Today. Classes will run as workshops, focusing on key areas such as sight-reading script, acting for stage and television, improvisation, movement and musical theatre plus many other fundamental skills that enrich an actor's performance. These will be intensive, demanding sessions, run over ten-week courses through out the year. The Course will consist of daytime classes, evening classes and Saturdays in order to be accessible to as many acting students as possible.
